On 15 May 2026, BIPED partners presented the project and a demo of the digital twin at the workshop organized by the sister project ExPEDite as part of the CONNECT conference.
The presentation started with OASC (Open & Agile Smart Cities) introducing BIPED to the audience. Ivy Yang explained how PEDs fit into the new energy paradigm that pushes cities to fast-track climate neutrality by deploying innovative energy concepts and technologies. After describing the project’s PED site in Aarhus, Ivy talked about the digital twin that BIPED is developing to assist the city with PED planning.
Next, a live demonstration of the tool was given by Arne Schilling from Virtual City Systems (VCS). Arne explained how to access the platform from the project website and then went through different platform features, models, and use cases. In the end, Arne spent some time presenting the solar calculator developed by VCS. The app calculates the return on investment and environmental impacts of PV installations, thus helping house owners and urban developers to determine whether buying rooftop solar panels is worthwhile.
After all the presentations from BIPED and ExPEDite partners, the interactive session ensued, during which participants could talk to project representatives about their solutions. Our stand was very busy. We had a mix of passers-by, from local policy makers representing Riga Municipality and Riga Energy Agency, to international experts assisting the Spanish city of Bilbao with mobility and urban planning.
If you haven’t been with us today—no worries, you can still access the tool and leave feedback.
