Aarhus has long been a front-runner in the local climate action. Back in 2009, the city hosted a conference that culminated in ‘7 Aarhus statements’ to address climate change post-Kyoto. Fast forward to 2025, Aarhus is a proud recipient of the EU Mission label awarded for its commitment to reaching climate neutrality by 2030. But with an annual carbon footprint of around 1.3M tonnes of CO2e, reaching that goal still presents a formidable challenge. In this podcast, we explore how the city is piloting new concepts and technologies, like Positive Energy Districts and Local Digital Twins, to fast-track its energy transition. Our guests are Johanne Hansen and Soren Jorgensen, both from the ITK Futures Lab of the Aarhus municipality.
