Building a Local Digital Twin (LDT) is no easy task. Building the one for a Positive Energy District (PED) is harder still.
To create an LDT for the Brabrand PED in Aarhus we had to assemble a suite of not 1, not 3, not 7, but 11 tools!
The BIPED suite is a mix of back-end and front-end solutions, models and algorithms, dashboards and scientific frameworks.
Back-end
DKSR OUP: A big data platform designed for processing high-volume, fast-moving and diverse urban data sources
VC Publisher: An authoring tool for managing geo-web applications in a digital twin
CDK Platform: Provides access to energy-related data for Danish municipalities
GLayer: A GPU-accelerated software for fast aggregation, filtering and visualisation of spatial data
Front-end
VC Map: A high-performance web-based solution for streaming 3D city models and other geospatial content
Models and algorithms
Road Twin: Simulates the impact of planned traffic restrictions on traffic flows
Traffic-Environ Analyst: Calculates emissions and their dispersion based on vehicle types, overall traffic density and route characteristics
Scientific frameworks
Smart Energy OS: A framework for efficient implementation of the future low-carbon and weather-driven energy system using digitalization and demand-response mechanisms
Grey-Box Modelling: Provides a framework for mathematical modelling which bridges the gap between black-box (purely data-driven) and white-box (purely physics-based) modelling
AIT Mobility Framework: Helps mobility experts and decision makers plan new interventions, conduct survey-based analysis, run detailed simulations and assess implemented measures for impact
MAPED: A bottom-up rapid energy assessment tool for analysing energy demand and supply in urban districts and for assessing district’s readiness to reach an annual positive energy balance and cover its energy needs (for electricity, heating, cooling etc.) with the help of renewable energy communities
Dashboards
CDK Platform, DKSR OUP, GLayer and Road Twin also offer data analytics through dedicated dashboards
Over the coming weeks, we'll be introducing our #LDT4PED technologies one by one. Stay tuned.
