About PEDs
A Positive Energy District (PED) is an urban area that produces more or the same amount of renewable energy than it consumes on an annual basis. These districts integrate different strategies, such as smart energy systems, energy-efficient buildings, and renewable energy generation to achieve a net-positive energy balance, while supporting local sustainability goals. Some of their key benefits are:
Reducing carbon emissions and climate change mitigation
Enhancing energy efficiency and security
Fostering innovation and economic growth
Improving air quality and public health
Promoting social inclusion and community engagement
